FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana’s Mahalia Gibson and Abilene Christian’s Hannah Null are the Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com. Abilene Christian (17-20, 10-8 SLC) earned its first Southland sweep of the season, taking all three games against UIW (12-24, 5-13) this weekend. The Wildcats will play at North Texas on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and host Sam Houston State (17-26, 9-9 SLC) this weekend. Honorable Mention: Makayla Sikes, Stephen F. Austin; Lindsey McLeod, Sam Houston State; Rachel Hayes, Southeastern Louisiana. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots. Softball Hitter of the Week – Mahalia Gibson, Southeastern Louisiana – 3B – Sr. – Hattiesburg, Miss. In a 4-1 week for Southeastern Louisiana, Gibson batted .471 and slugged .882. She started the week with a 4-fo-4 performance with two home runs and a double against ULM. In the weekend series at Northwestern State, she produced three RBIs to lead the Lady Lions to an 11-6 win on Saturday. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native leads Southeastern with nine home runs, 41 RBIs and nine doubles in her senior campaign. Southeastern (26-16, 12-6 SLC) lost just one of its five contests over the week capped by a series sweep over then-league leaders Northwestern State (24-15, 11-7 SLC). The Lady Lions travel for a doubleheader Tuesday at Jackson State before hosting Central Arkansas (22-19, 11-7 SLC) this weekend. Softball Pitcher of the Week – Hannah Null, Abilene Christian – Sr. – Highland Village, Texas The two-time 2018 Southland Pitcher of Week gave up just six hits across 14.2 innings against UIW this weekend. Null picked up the win in each of the three games, tossing two complete games before earning the victory in 1.2 innings of the last game. She surrendered just two walks and one hit by pitch and finished the weekend with a 0.00 ERA.
