UVU Softball Adds Former Utah Star As An Assistant

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailOREM, Utah-Utah Valley University head softball coach TJ Hubbard announced the hiring of a new assistant coach Wednesday.Anissa Urtez, a former University of Utah standout and a current member of the Mexican national softball team was appointed to fill this position.Urtez will join the Wolverines’ staff officially as she finishes playing with the Mexican national squad.During her playing days with the Utes, Urtez was a three-time All-Pac-12 honoree and durably played in all games throughout her collegiate career.Last season, she had her best offensive output as a collegian, amassing a .405 batting average an was fourth in the Pac-12 with 50 RBI.Urtez is a native of Long Beach, Calif. and starred for the Downey High School Vikings of Downey, Calif.Urtez earned her bachelor’s degree from the U of U in family and consumer studies and human development and minored in health.While coaching at UVU, she plans to pursue a master’s of education with an emphasis in teacher leadership this fall.
